pearl essence

we also used strings upon strings of pearls to add subtle luxury to the decor of the wedding reception at the Mandarin Oriental last saturday.  the soft shimmer of the pearls blended well with the muted light and pale colors of the flowers.

 

simple yet satisfying

at the Saloma Bistro recently, our clients were initially not impressed with the dark walls of the anteroom where their majllis akad nikah was scheduled to be held. but we assured them that we have the proper means to allay their anxieties. so when the big day finally arrived, the layered drapery in soothing cream that we applied to the sombre walls made our clients coo with satisfaction. even the management of the venue requested that we leave the drapes as they were after the ceremony. but of course we declined politely.

party animals

enchanting, we were told.  indeed.  if only we could populate the setup with actual denizens of a true rainforest.  but lest we ruin the real intent of this reception dinner, suffice it to scatter the treetops with incandescent lights in place of fireflies, bird silhouette lamps for live perching birds, the recorded calls and songs of tree frogs and crickets for the real sounds.   

but the bride was so enamored with the overall look and feel of the decor that she canceled her booking of an afterparty scheduled at another venue, requested the musicians to setup their instruments right beneath the tree canopies and invited her crepuscular friends to celebrate her big day amidst all the enchantments till the wee hours of morning.  of course that meant more to us than any mention of gratitude.

exotic interlude

the akad nikah was followed by the menyarung cincin and bersanding ceremonies all graciously executed on another pelamin across a white-draped hall lined with rows of crystal chiavari chairs.  for these rituals, we created a pelamin that repeated the austere forest element but featured a contemporary representation of the client's refined Malay heritage in the form of a bespoke daybed with accompanying bunga pahars encased in frame pedestals embellished with flower balls.  we scattered stands of flower arrangements swathed in lianas near the walls and hanged them in triplicates from the center of the draped ceiling and the four corners of the hall to render an exotic essence to the atmosphere befitting the extraordinary charm of the bride and groom.
