tales from earthsea: a prelude

for the assignment in that piece of heaven on earth, we afforded the creative touches of two angels, Iman and Lan, to adorn the windswept oceanfront compounds of the client with our signature floral gatherings. our client was abundantly generous to lend a few delicate hands to prep the flowers for our angels so they could work with ease. apart from decking the outdoors, our angels also created centerpieces for the indoors. in this post, we feature the work our angels did for the dining table in the house. they topped an assembly of clear glass cylinders in varying sizes and heights arranged lengthwise across the table with loose gatherings of locally bought flowers in mostly neutral hues. flashes of bright yellows, oranges, and pinks added vitality to the assembly. lit block candles finished the look, radiating an ethereal glow across the surface of the table, giving the illusion that the flowers were floating on air.

fantastic journey II

we had such a blissful experience at this fanciful abode in Bangsar preparing for a night of fine dining. the venue was impeccable, to say the least and our angels relished every minute of their time admiring every detail. what would usually be a chaotic episode at a typical function turned out to be an ethereal sequence of arranging and re-arranging our glassware and flowers to ensure that they complement the environment beautifully. in the end, our angels couldn't help but admire the whole composition a bit longer than usual. so, let's dispense with the narrative and just let you savor the sights.

cirque du chic

so, what's a girl to do the day after she's married to the man of her dreams? p-a-r-t-a-y! and what a way to party than to invite all your friends to an all-night food and dance fest showered in glamorous colors and glittering lights! this was the look and feel that our client requested for her reception dinner the night after her solemnization ceremony. so, we conjured up visions of free flowing shapes in multi-colored hues filling up the spaces inside and outside the mandarin oriental ballroom starting from the winding staircase leading up to the venue.
we bathed the walls and ceiling of the ballroom in bright colors and set the tables writhing in serpentine fashion in spokes of four. where the tables met, we erected a lofty tree with four outstretched branches that rained down multi-colored satin ribbons interspersed with clear acrylic sticks that flickered when shone upon by flashing lights. around the tables, we draped the black chiavari chairs in three tones of purple covers in three alternating designs. upon the tables, we farmed a collage of flora in shades of reds, purples, greens and oranges. there were succulents, berries and rare berzilias apart from the multitudes of regular cymbidiums, brassicas, irises, hydrangeas, tulips, callas and lilacs. in the spaces between the blooms, we placed lofty ostrich plume center pieces and scattered block candles on chrome-plated candle stands and tea lights in bauble-shaped votive cups.
outside the ballroom, we laid out a lounge area with white and orange ottomans both cubic and tubular arranged around acrylic coffee tables lit from within. on certain surfaces of the tables, guests could make out the initials of the newlyweds. upon the tables, we placed cutesy posies of orange amaryllis, callas, ornithogalums, parrot tulips and pink hydrangeas. we also erected giant trees with singular canopies of orange satin and organza ribbons between the clusters of ottomans. we hung LED cubes between the ribbons and lit them up in neon green and blue. at the base of the trees, we placed orange donut sofas that we littered with plush cushions in orange and white.
on the night of the event, fireworks lit up the aisle as the newlyweds entered the ballroom and that was exactly the effect we intended for the guests to experience during the occasion.

magic mirrors on the wall

of course, we provided the gorgeous floral arrangements to accentuate this impressive majlis bernikah setting provided by Pak Abu. muted creams, ivory and whites in the roses, hydrangeas, orchids, tulips and callas with touches of moss and chartreuse greens in the hydrangeas and anthuriums. simply as demure and alluring as the bride of the day.

we continued the theme into the hallways, down the grand staircase, out the main entrance and onto the canopies out in the open where guests were enjoying the food while watching the goings-on upstairs on flat screens installed in each canopy. we dressed the tables in green and accentuated the tops with simple loose posies in green cylinders. white washed floral panels separated the canopies while allowing guests to play peekaboo. to top it off, quite literally, we draped the canopies with toile to provide that pleasantly bucolic feel to the event. breathe in deeply and smell the fresh air, darling.

friendly neighbors

a week after we presented the warm tones for our guests from the Middle East, we welcomed another party of guests with a more familiar ambience. for our guests from across the Malacca Straits, we presented a floral palette that reflects their vibrant culture and verdant landscape: florals in bright rainbow hues and foliages with distinctive textures.
