out of africa

we received these astonishing photographs of beautiful african headdresses from GLAM magazine. an editor from the magazine wished to feature our work in their upcoming weddings edition and wanted to know our own interpretation of the headdresses. so, in the photographs that follow, we feature our very own creations.

more from the garden

we left out a few details from our post on Fiza and Farhan’s wedding last April. so, here are more pictures from that event. if you look closely at the floral sprawl on the main table, you might find a few surprises that we deliberately added to the arrangement. have fun looking!

rhapsody in blue

it’s quite okay to be sentimental. but sometimes when you’ve done a million events tuned to the same frequency, you need something jazzy to liven things up. which is why we love Syerlee for having the audacity to tune in to this snazzy design for her pelamin. a white canvas with touches of blue all over. do you hear the jazz playing in the background, darling?

something to remember

the passing of a loved one is nothing to be celebrated about. but it should be a day to be cherished. fond memories, times good and bad, and the memorable flower arrangements sent in by well-wishers...

magic mirrors on the wall

of course, we provided the gorgeous floral arrangements to accentuate this impressive majlis bernikah setting provided by Pak Abu. muted creams, ivory and whites in the roses, hydrangeas, orchids, tulips and callas with touches of moss and chartreuse greens in the hydrangeas and anthuriums. simply as demure and alluring as the bride of the day.

we continued the theme into the hallways, down the grand staircase, out the main entrance and onto the canopies out in the open where guests were enjoying the food while watching the goings-on upstairs on flat screens installed in each canopy. we dressed the tables in green and accentuated the tops with simple loose posies in green cylinders. white washed floral panels separated the canopies while allowing guests to play peekaboo. to top it off, quite literally, we draped the canopies with toile to provide that pleasantly bucolic feel to the event. breathe in deeply and smell the fresh air, darling.

enchanted

it was our very first foray into the land below the winds when we were commissioned to adorn the Magellan Ballroom at the Sutera Harbour Resort for a wedding reception. arriving with much anticipation, we didn't quite know what to expect. the tastes and fancies of the people are quite different, so we were told. but after spending time working and sharing our passion with the good people there, we left full of satisfaction knowing that we have won their hearts with our touch. here are glimpses of our work:

guests entering the ballroom were greeted by an arbor of locally sourced branches painted white and festooned with faux wisterias, lakspurs, pearl crystals and hanging tea candles in glass jars. further in, the aisles were lined with decors on high pedestals. white branches were anchored to the bases of fresh florals in glorious lavenders, purples, pinks, creams and champagnes, and tea candles in glass jars were also hung from the ends of the branches. at the center of the festivity, we erected a pelamin with an arch of white branches fringed with faux hydrangeas, wisterias and larkspurs. for the backdrop, we hung an ornate white-washed fiberglass frame that we filled with faux hydrangeas, ranunculus and peonies in all the glorious colors of the fresh blooms. we also decked the main table with fresh blooms and block candles for the honoured guests to savor.

areca

as much as we love indulging ourselves with modern elements in our designs, we never turn our backs on the more tradional elements. so, when the chance to work out a traditional malay themed wedding arrived, we grabbed it.

our client picked green and gold as the main colors. we presented these in the fabrics used for the table overlays and the drapes, as well as in the ornaments used in the pelamin. somewhat a unique feature that we used were the ‘gold-plated’ betel leaves that we suspended over stringed jasmines in panels that we used as a backdrop for the pelamin. the gold leaves complemented the gilded chairs and motifs of the pelamin quite beautifully. the apple green velvet we picked to cover the 5-tiered pelamin was nothing short of looking regal and demure at the same time.

on this occasion, our client was keen on presenting not only a feast to the eyes but also a savory olfactory experience. so, apart from the usual eye-catching floral entres, we also served aromatic ylang ylang, cempakas, tuberoses and jasmines in our arrangements. we upped the fragrant feel a notch by adding generous sprinklings of bunga mawar on all the dinner tables as well as the main table. here are a few shots of our work inside the Shangri-La ballroom minutes before the start of the event:

falling water

our clients had alluded to water when they discussed the theme for this particular wedding. so, we created this water curtain backdrop for their pelamin with raindrop crystals and stringed white dendrobium orchids and let ambient lights to play out the magic. and we love the effect!

next, our clients wished to have a sweetheart table. so, we granted them a setting where the table was placed atop a raised platform and covered in white with a grey pleated overlay. we populated the tabletop with crystal candle holders adorned with ivory roses and hydrangeas in white and blue, and placed a tall center piece of ivory roses and blue hydrangeas crowned with white phalaenopsis and dendrobium orchids smack in the middle. we sprawled more roses and hydrangeas on one side of the table and let them tumble, phalaenopsis orchids and all, onto the platform and continued on to the floor in a fluffy cascade of petals. at the opposite end of the table, we placed two crystal chiavari chairs meant for our two sweethearts and adorned them with cutesy heart-shaped wreathes of roses and hydrangeas that had the guests sighing in awe.

we continued with our clients' aquatic allusion in the rest of the ballroom with similarly dressed dining tables (sans the sweetheart wreathes) filling the floor space and raindrop crystal chandeliers looming overhead. along the aisles, we lined mirrored pedestals upright and on theirs sides and decked them with crystal candle holders in florals, crystal table chandeliers and water-filled cylinders with submerged cymbidium orchids.

lady marmalade

orange roses are adorably bright and cheery, and they make great picker-uppers to help counter the blues. here, we've gathered them along with our favorite flowers in a quaint arrangement. we hope it would help make it a fine and dandy day at the receiving end.

pangea

here's a sampling of a time when greenhouse gases weren't such a threat: a world replete with lush green shoots sheltering virginal and succulent blooms in a rich variety of shapes and sizes, twining vines meandering amongst the busy ruse of colors and textures seeking out the open spaces in between, and underbrushes making the best of the shade beneath all the drama unfolding above them.

tall order

today, we are serving up a congregation of fresh blooms with substantial differences in color, shape and texture: chunky roses in ivory and champagne, dainty mokaras in red, lilies blushing pink and tuberoses demure but fragrant nonetheless.

light hors d'oeuvre

today, we are serving a dainty portion of fluffy hydrangeas in lilac and green, mixed with crunchy roses in baby pink and ivory, and garnished with succulent cymbidiums in green, all served up in a chic decorative tin vessel in chocolate and gold. feel free to browse our menu for the main course.

sinful

we love working with clients who have a wicked sense of adventure because it would allow us to go wild with our thoughts. this was the case with a client last weekend. without anything to do with LSD but having a lot of SJP in mind, she commissioned us to create a classical look for her pelamin reminiscing a page out of Vogue. it involved a truckload of hydrangeas in delicious pastel shades, pouring down from a vintage Channel flap bag-inspired wall, upon a sensuous white divan fit for a diva.

on the dining deck especially built for the occasion, we continued the theme with white canopies under which we hung crystal chandeliers and black-lined white curtains tied back into graceful butterflies. below, we arranged the tables covered in white with cream tactile floral overlays. and around each dining table, drum-roll please, we premiered our beautiful black chiavari chairs.

good vibrations

we love working with viburnums for their dainty and delicately light fluff that works wonders when gathered with the more bushy hydrangeas. here, we combined the two with ivory roses and white peonies for a light hearted bouquet aimed to remind the bride of her brighter days ahead!

warm welcome

our spirits were on high alert while preparing these floral gatherings despite the heavy downpour outside. we were focusing on the right look and feel to be presented to the visitors from Qatar who were to attend a banquet at Seri Perdana. warmth was to be felt and pleasurable was to be carried on the entire night. so, we picked reds and violets as the warm canvas, sprinkled white, ivory and cream as neutral toppings and added bits of chartreuse green as pleasant highlights. we hope our guests enjoyed the evening as much as we enjoyed crafting the florals.

baby love

the baby would drool regardless but we wouldn't mind a bit if the mother would do the same when she sees this bundle of joy: juicy fruits set upon a bed of fluffy hydrangeas and scrumptiuos roses garnished with a fine sprinkling of ruscus. have happy mother's day too, darling.
